FROM FRAGRANCE TO FIRE

FROM FRAGRANCE TO FIRE (PART 1 Episode 2)

To no one in sight as if someone was trying to keep me glued to the couch, I shouted leave me o and I kept repeating that as I scrolled to other responses from my mates to the common yet disastrous news which is none other than “ASUU STRIKE HAS BEEN EXTENDED BY A MONTH”.

Whereas when it started it was like a joke because we were in the midst of getting project supervisors assigned to students and I had even joked to my mates that I serve a living God and that the strike will end soon. Looong minutes after, I saw a mention and I checked the message in the name tag only to see one of those nuisance in the class callimg me out claiming that why has my living God not stopped the strike. This stoke the fire of aggression in me the more after having lost my plantains in worship and now ASUU strike has joined this fire zone. I fired quick retorts to the insult to my God and self respect.

I ignored the rest of the messages as I slumped into the couch looking like a soaked exam sheet.
My thought process started from how I lost my parents during senior WAEC examinations in a plane crash, lost my heritage to wicked family uncles and aunts from both sides, had to do all sorts of ugly odd jobs just to feed until I found a nice family that helped me with my JAMB fee after they heard my sob story. It went on like that to the year I gained admission, breaking it to this family that adopted a sixteen year old young lady into their family, they helped pay the rest of the school fees and miscellaneous for the first year.
The financial support stopped when they moved out of the country to live with their only son in one of the countries abroad. They asked me to move out and stay with their family friend who has a supermarket where I had been working since then to feed, cloth, pay for school materials and enough to get by. I had been able to save enough to refurbish the house the eldest daughter of the friend lived in while she was in this school I currently study at.
I had already calculated the budget for the rest of the year in school as I was already in my final year and was supposed to start exams the coming month that this strike happened to show up in.

I was too absorbed in my story to hear the heavy racking of knuckles on the front door. I broke out of my reverie when my phone rang so loud, by looking at it I head to the door and open it to see two of my school friends; one with the phone of the other still by her ear, both frowning already at the door as if it could penetrate through the door to me. I opened it wide for them after apologizing and moved it aside to allow them in.

The first thing that hit me in the face as I walked behind them back to the couch was the insult of how the house smelt like I had burnt down half of the building. They did say that with some undertone that almost sent me into another fury but I pressed it down seeing that the three of us have bigger things to discussed and probably discovered together. After all, birds of a feather flock together.

My worship is my weapon, this is how I win my battle
