Àdùnní has never worn a beautiful attire before. She comes from a poor home where having three square meals is almost impossible. She had struggled and worked greatly hard for funds before she could be a able to support herself in secondary school, doing one menial job or another, shuffling work and school at the same time. Finally it was time to graduate from high school. This period is a time to celebrate one’s successful six years in school. She managed to pay her graduating fees doing extra work, what’s left is her attire for the event. She had heard her friends and other classmates talk about the beautiful attires they were going to wear and how extravagant they were going to look that day. This made her sad because she couldn’t afford much and the event day is fast approaching. “For once in my life, I want to look so good” she had said to herself looking cast down.
Two days to the event, she had already given up on getting a new and beautiful attire. She decided to settle for the best out of her clothes; a blue flared gown which her neighbor had given to her. After her measly night meal, she went to sleep on her wrapper which was spread on the floor close to her siblings.
A woman in a very colorful regalia appeared before her. The designs on her cloth are so extravagant shining so brightly. Apart from her attire, she looked too beautiful to be real. As she walked, the flare on her cloth flew around looking like the wings of a butterfly, the colors more vivid. Àdùnní looked at her, her mouth wide open marveling at the beauty in front of her.
“who are you?” she managed to ask
“I’m Arẹwà, the Queen of Beauty and Fashion” the strange woman replied.
“wow! I can’t agree less, you look so beautiful. Is it possible for me to look like you?” Àdùnní asked her.
“I’ve felt your worries and I’m here to ease them. You’ve always wanted to look good and I’m here to grant your request. You deserve it, for all your hard work” Arewa said to her. She held her hand and kissed it.
“thank you, thank you” Àdùnní kept on murmuring till she woke up from sleep.
Right next to her lay a very beautiful attire she has never seen in her entire life, she couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She pinched herself to make sure, she bursts into tears in happiness.
Finally, it was the Dday, Àdùnní appeared at the event looking extremely beautiful. Everyone couldn’t believe it was her, they marveled at her beauty, gathering round her.
“how come you look so beautiful?” one of them asked.
“I had an encounter with the Queen of beauty and Fashion” she replied smiling and feeling fulfilled.
“thank you for helping me live my dream, Arewa” she said to herself.
